Electronica and expansive experimentalism comes to Sheffield’s Sensoria, Getintothis’ Will Neville looks ahead to their tenth edition.

Sheffield’s city centre Sensoria Festival offers music and more as it reaches its tenth year this autumn.

The steel city’s music and film festival, named after a song by local electronic pioneers Cabaret Voltaire, expands this year to take place over ten days from September 27 to October 6 in venues across Sheffield, this time with a Senses Working Overtime theme.

As XTC sang in the song of the same name, “I can see, hear, smell, touch, taste”, with the festival intriguingly promising to cover all five senses.

Acts taking part in previous years include Jarvis Cocker, John Grant, Laurie Anderson, Bill Ryder-Jones, Radiophonic Workshop and Bill Drummond.

Only a few names for this year have been confirmed to date, including electronic motorik maestros BEAK> and the Liverpool-based Ex-Easter Island Head (who performed at the festival in 2016) sharing the bill at Sheffield University’s Foundry on October 4.

Alongside live bands, there will also be a host of film screenings, art installations and exhibitions, and music and film industry events, with the latter including SynthFest UK at the University’s Octagon on October 6 where synth lovers can see all the latest equipment.

There are sure to be plenty of surprises in store, with past festivals having included swimming pool screenings and city centre drive-ins.
