The folk trio of Emily Portman, Emma Sweeney and Lucy Ward look to win hearts and minds with a showcase of their talents. Getintothis’ Joseph Viney reports.

A trio of contemporary folk females are pitching up at the Philharmonic Hall on Sunday February 2.
Under the umbrella of Womenfolk, the triumvirate of Emily Portman, Emma Sweeney and Lucy Ward will be looking to enthrall their audience with modern takes on the most traditional of styles.
Between them they have picked up plaudits and recommendations almost magnetically, and their output speaks for itself.
Each is in possession of disarmingly great voices and a real dedication to their craft. Moreover, it’s heartening to see such traditions being continued.
All three will be looking to tackle traditional stories, laments and the dark underbelly of folklore in their own inimitable styles.
It’s a bumper bill and certainly uniquely generous given the quality and pedigree on offer.
