Gilles Peterson

Acclaimed radio presenter, DJ and avid record collector, Gilles Peterson, drops in at the Philharmonic in the summer. Getintothis’ Janaya Pickett expects some dancing will ensue.

As part of LIMF 2016, Gilles Peterson will be curating an evening dedicated to British soul music at the Philharmonic Music Room  on July 21.

Summer delights: Getintothis’ review of the the final night of LIMF 2015

Radio presenter, DJ, Brownswood Recordings boss and all round sound guru Peterson has a long established relationship with the Liverpool music scene, and returns to the city to present a night of guaranteed entertainment – including a house band which will collaborate with some of the most important names of the genre from the past 30 years.

Few details have been released about the event, but the Gilles Peterson brand speaks for itself. Associated with legends such as Roni Size and Erykah Badu and newer artists Ghostpoet and Four Tet, Gilles’s knowledge of his craft runs deep: he has dedicated his life to what he calls a worldwide ‘search for the perfect beat’.

On this search Peterson has amassed a collection of over 50,000 records and with his own world-music awards, festival and record label, has many fingers in many pies.

Whatever the evening brings there can be no doubt that it will be an intelligent and meticulously planned retrospective of the genre. There can also be no doubt that some dancing will occur.

In the meantime you can check out Peterson’s vast soundcloud of his own mixes, sessions and showcased talent, or catch his weekly show on BBC 6 Music.

Tickets for 21 July are available via the Philharmonic Box Office
