Just an observation before we start:
Isn’t it strange how being a fan of music, sport, films, whatever, you do these lists then you see friends, media outlets, social dictators and suddenly your whole perspective is more and more inclined to change, bend or sway?
Around this time of year we’re literally bombared with every form of list and social commentary on everything from Best Novelist to Greatest Drug Addict – and increasingly the opinions of the few shape and smudge the many.
So while admitting I, like anyone, would admit to being influenced by the tastemakers and the writers of the day, I can honestly say, the framework and foundations of the 50 were in place long before Metacritic and co. delivered their end of year compilations.
Whether it is fresh, original or indeed credible, like everything to do with subjective opinion, is yours to decide – I look forward to hearing from you…
