Threshold Festival 2013 swings into action on Friday with three days of arts, culture, music, film and performance right across Liverpool.

Today we’ve Threshold Festival director’s Chris and Kaya Carney‘s personal picks on what to see during the three days – and as they concede, there’s much to shout about…

We’re struggling here, we are genuinely excited about every act on the bill. So it’s with great difficulty that we’ve picked one from each music line-up.
Friday at Camp it has to be the incredible Johnny Panic & the Fever.
Meanwhile in Furnace be sure to catch Avital Raz, she’s been someone we’ve wanted to book for a while now and she is sounding better than ever.
In Blade Factory you can watch Wired to Follow, a post rock electronica outfit made up of some of the scene’s finest such as Stephen Johnston of MinionTV.
Over in The Picket a treat from The Roughneck Riot, a punk band reminiscent of the Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly, but bang up to date.
Upstairs in the Gold Room on The Roost line-up, it’s got to be So Sexual. Head over to Elevator Bar and enjoy the sonic stylings of Book Thieves.
Finish of your night at Blade Factory with a set from Waxxx DJs Allen & Hutch – but numbers are limited and it’s going to be packed.
Early doors, head over to Elevator you should check out Laura & Claire then quickly head to the Picket to see what Mello Mello are cooking up while you have a watch of Richard Barry.
If you fancy a panel then get yourself to ‘For the Love?‘ at Baltic Creative, this is a discussion on the long history of philanthropy in music.
Bob in to The Gold Room and enjoy the sounds of Orian and then it’s time to hit the Furnace to see the brilliant JC Villafan all the way from LA.
Next door in Camp you’ll do well to check out The Nihilites, then head to The Blade Factory and DO NOT MISS Paddy Steer’s 3 Pronged Audio Bath consisting of Graham Massey (808 State), John Ellis (Cinematic Orchestra) & Paddy himself.
After-Party destinations are a plenty but you’ll do a lot worse than checking out Dan Danko at The Picket and also nipping up the road to Haus to catch a DJ going through the decades before coming back to Camp & Furnace to catch Yum Yum DJs playing soulful house to the early hours.
It’s time to check out the free fringe festival first.
Check out music in the Albert Dock at numerous venues including iconic Maritime Museum & also Siren at the Women’s Organisation and The Lomax.
Back to the main event and you can see The Singing Bowl Orchestra at Camp, while you’re there you can also see Dave O’Grady in the Furnace and the lovely Rumjig at Elevator.
Up in the Gold Room a double recommendation for Sunday in the shape of Efterklang‘s film The Ghost of Piramida and Little Atom presenting Paul Du Noyer LIverpool: Wondrous Place hosted by Mike Neary.
