Flyte

As Flyte launch their debut album, Getintothis’ Will Neville puts his trust in new single Faithless.

Debut album from Londoners Flyte, The Loved Ones, is released today on Island Records. This was recorded in Australia with Courtney Barnett’s producer Burke Reid, with the album title in honour of an Evelyn Waugh novel.

The band are in fact named after a family in Waugh’s Brideshead Revisited, and they say new single and album opener Faithless is “about painful romanticising of the past, and the mourning of what has come and gone. Brideshead Revisited portrays this perfectly and Faithless is based around themes from the book”.

Why did The K Foundation burn a million quid?

The Hackney-based four-piece are singer/guitarist Will Taylor, bassist Nick Hill, Sam Berridge on keyboards and guitars, and drummer Jon Supran, and recently treated The Magnet in Liverpool to a pre-album show that added a new chill-out element to their sound.

Faithless kicks off with concert piano chords before some vocals that recall the pastoral psych of the likes of The Zombies and The Kinks. It features a hint of their trademark four-part harmonies as the track takes their anthemic indie pop sound closer towards Coldplay and Keane territory than ever before, although this is undercut by a choppy guitar solo that calls to mins some of Brian Eno’s mid-70’s solo albums.

The band returns to Liverpool to play Buyers Club on Wednesday 11 October as part of a full UK tour this autumn:
