There seems to be so much focus on fresh talent these days, that sometimes people can forget that new music doesn’t necessarily mean new acts.
Yes, we all love unearthing that hidden gem that only a select few will know of, but it’s worth remembering that some of the biggest names in the world were at that stage at some point and still deliver the goods today, as a couple of this week’s guide members will show.
So go and see the newest of the new, but remember, an old dog can still teach you new tricks.
The Who
The Who: Liverpool Echo Arena, April 3
What better way to kick off the week then with one of the biggest bands of all time, with The Who set to hit the docks this Monday.
In a special treat for fans, this show will see them play their classic album Tommy in its entirety plus some of their other classics too.
Blaenavon
Blaenavon: Studio 2, April 4
The wait is finally over for fans of the infectious indie trio Blaenavon, as they celebrate the release of their debut album this week.
With the group heading to Parr Street this Tuesday, this one has been a sell out since it was announced. If your heading down, your in for a real treat here.
Jesca Hoop
Jesca Hoop: The Magnet, April 5
American songstress Jesca Hoop makes the descent to The Magnet this week, as she makes her Liverpool return on Wednesday.
Filled with a well of ideas and experimental delights, this is a rare delight that should not be overlooked as those who know will vouch for.
Peaness
Deep Cuts: Buyers Club, April 6
The third instalment of our Deep Cuts night heads to Buyers Club this Thursday, with some of the best new talent around.
Peaness, The Shipbuilders, Jo Mary, Neil NOA and Radio Exotica will all be on offer for this not to be missed bonanza.
Paul Weller
Paul Weller: Liverpool Guild of Students, April 9
It may well be forty years since The Jam’s debut, but The Modfather is still proving he has what it takes on his own, with his thirteenth solo album out later this year.
This week he heads to his second home once more, as he plays to a capacity Mountford Hall this weekend. If you’re after a ticket, you’re too late.
